Holy Week and Easter observances 2017

posted Apr 1, 2017, 12:36 PM by Martha Day

Palm/Passion - Sunday, April 9
  • 10:30am Morning worship - Palm/Passion Sunday celebrates Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem. The day also observes the changes about to take place that fateful week.
Once again this year we will be joining with Prides Corner Congregational Church to observe and celebrate some of Holy Week together. Rev. Leslie Foley and Rev Ed. DeLong invite both of our churches to come together to strengthen our faith and prepare for a joyous Easter.  We hope that both churches will make the effort to join together for worship on these services for Holy Week.

Steps and Stops Along the Way - throughout the week - see below

Maundy Thursday - Thursday, April 13
  • 7:00 PM at Prides Corner Congregational Church (235 Pride Street) - Maundy Thursday is the day we remember Jesus’ last meal with his disciples. The service will be Seder-like service of remembrance. It will be a simple meal of soup and bread as well as a reflective celebration of the Last Supper.
Good Friday - Friday, April 14
  • 7:00 PM at Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church (810 Main Street) - Good Friday is the day the church remembers the last hours of Jesus’ life and the events that led to his crucifixion. Again many of us find that remembrance a fitting and even necessary part of our worship the last days of Holy Week.
Easter - Sunday, April 16
  • 5:45am at Riverbank Park - We will meet the gazebo at Riverbank Park on Main Street to celebrate the Resurrection and the Light dawning that first Easter Day. Following the service we will gather for coffee, juice and muffins at WWCC.
  • 10:30am Morning worship

Steps and Stops Along the Way

Steps and Stops Along the Way is a self-guided remembrance of Christ’s Walk to the Cross. It is a contemporary version of the traditional Stations of the Cross. It is open to all and free to the public.  You can walk at you own pace and visit and reflect on ten Stops Along Jesus’ Walk to the cross. Each “Stop’” has a scripture, meditation and prayer associated with it. (Plan on about 30-45 minutes). A Deacon will be there to greet you these times it is open.
